Long Live Lelouch!!!

*!!!WARNING!!!*WARNING!!!*SPOILER ALERT!!*

Well, all good journeys must come to an end: the quest fulfilled, the goal accomplished, the destination reached. Thus, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, our dearest and most inspiring anime, has also come to its conclusion. It was time, I suppose, for like the cycles of the world, or the clocks in the world of “C,” everything comes full circle. Sometimes it is completed, ofttimes it results in a furthering of Chaos, sowing destruction, as those who commit atrocities learn not from their mistakes, but rather, like fools, rush headlong into fiery death and damnation, bringing as much of the world with them as they spitefully can.

But Lelouch V. Britannia, 99th and final Emperor of the Holy Empire of Britannia, dared to defy the circle, that eternal orbit around the hellfire sun of suffering. Lelouch, the rebel, the warrior, the brilliant strategist, the elder brother, the world shaper, Messiah, worker of miracles, Symbol of Freedom, icon of genius, lover of mankind. Lelouch, he who by his own hand became Emperor of the World, who saw fit to play with the lives of men as if they were his toys. The master of masks, who became Zero, champion of the people, in order to overthrow an Empire, and bring peace to the world.

Did he succumb, like many miserable tragic heroes, to the headrush of power? Did he decide to wield his strength, and his power over the minds of men, in order to reshape the world as he saw fit? Did he use his Geass to impose order on the world and rule it with an iron fists, ensuring peace via puppetry, with his fingers at the strings. The answer is, yes, he did…..or so we thought

For Lelouch, having crushed his foes and established his might, stood poised to assume mastery of the earth, and to reign with darkness over a kingdom, an empire, a world of slaves and thralls, obeying his every whim and bidding…

Suddenly, with a start, in the horizon, Zero, symbol of hope and peace, arose to meet his final challenge. Maneuvering through the defenses, he arrived at the throne of the enemy of freedom, Lelouch himself, and without hesitation struck the killing blow…

…All according to plan. How satisfied Lelouch, worker of miracles, appeared, as he slumped, a gaping, gory hole in his chest, beside his dear sister Nunally. What he must have been thinking…relishing his final victory, his true triumph, not against the empire, not against an evil king, but against himself, against the world, against the cycles that determine pain and horror. His eyes closing, the fire of the Geass fading away, his breath stilling, his hands grown cold, a calm descending, his rest at last, a chance to sleep away his fears, his worries, his task now complete, at last they called him home…

And so passed Lelouch V. Britannia, 99th and final Emperor, who became a symbol of hate and took on the anger and fear of the world unto himself, that with his death, they too would pass away. He rests now, called to the halls of the great, those who gave away the World, that man might have his hopes and dreams, those who possesed power and willingly gave it all away for the betterment of mankind. He rests now, and abides with them, in whose mighty company he can hold his head proud…

Forever in our hearts

Long Live Lelouch…
